Hi there!!!…..and thanks for stopping by!!! I am Terry, a 40 something Englishman who grew up during the cold war era, the son of a career soldier. I was born in Germany as an Army Brat, and lived mostly on active army camps till I returned to England at 11 years old. Moving with the military every couple of years certainly taught a lot of self-sufficiency and the ability to communicate with anyone, with the occasional split lip and black eye to show for it in my teens. I also learned that it can be helpful to make friends with the biggest kid in class…..or second biggest if you are the biggest 🙂
Professionally I started out as an Electronic and Electrical Engineer, and never really lost that interest in technology. I moved to the “dark side of the force” into sales and marketing more by necessity than by design I admit. From there with an MBA (another topic for another day, but is it what business needs?) into management and leadership and now consulting.
I have close to 30 years’ experience in business and people development (is there really a difference?), hate saying 30 years btw – it doesn’t feel that long, nor do I feel that old. My career encompassed global service, sales, marketing and product management functions, many of those years in intra/entrepreneurial leadership roles. I have worked for large and small companies and started and ran my own business (sales and service) for 6 years before selling it to a supplier. I have been fortunate enough to visit over 30 countries during my career, and experienced different business cultures first hand. There have many been highs and lows, and being honest I certainly haven’t got everything right. I read somewhere that if you’re not making mistakes you aren’t really trying…..I like that a lot.
I moved from England to the US 7 years ago with a work relocation, Knoxville Tennessee to be precise with Y’all – now that was a bit of a culture shock!! Not sure who was more surprised me or the inhabitants? but I loved it…..with a brief stop in Michigan (how cold??) for a year – I came to Dallas Texas, after moving a company from the East Bay area of San Francisco (how expensive??). Despite being English an’ all, I find the Southern culture charming and very easy to fit into.
I am forthright and passionate in my personal and work life, I am always happy to play devil’s advocate and challenge the status quo. I love seeing and helping people develop and reach their full potential, high performing teams are built from high performing individuals. I am enthusiastic about customer service, it’s a real sustainable differentiator and I still come across many companies and individuals who just don’t get it…….There is some kind of machismo thing at work – ding ding……it is NOT a sign of weakness to want make customers happy. Ultimately only they pay for everything we have and everything we want……
So in a nutshell that’s the basics of me……I am happy to talk about absolutely anything and nothing is off limits. BizBlot is my shop front to the world, I wear my heart on my sleeve and will also in my communications via this website. Don’t expect sugar coating, I don’t do it, never have and never will – it’s a waste of time and shows a lack of respect. That said I know how to get ideas across in a non-confrontational way, I will supply the GOOD STUFF to you in easy to swallow tablet form – how you swallow it is totally up to you, but if required you will need to bring your own sugar 🙂 Cheers!!!
So what would we like to talk about? Well I have a list of topics as long as my arm…..but here are a few to get started and whet our appetites. If you have anything that’s bugging the crap out of you – feel free to cough it up here
